![]() ![]() For instance, an SAE 30 must be between 9.3 and <12.5 cSt at 100o C, that’s the approximate temperature of the bulk oil in the engine oil circulating system. Each “non-W” viscosity grade has a range of viscosities at 100o C which it must fall within. ![]() The “non-W”, high temperature viscosity grades have their viscosity measured at high temperatures representative of the conditions that the oil encounters in an operating engine. “W”/winter grades also have to meet a minimum high temperature viscosity. As well, there’s a Low Temperature Pumping Viscosity which ensures that the oil at low temperatures isn’t so thick so that the oil pump cannot move it. There’s a Low Temperature Cranking Viscosity which sets a viscosity requirement at various low temperatures to ensure that the oil isn’t too thick so that the starter motor can’t crank the engine over. The “W”/winter viscosity grades describe the oil’s viscosity under cold temperature engine starting conditions. There are the “W”/winter, grades of engine oil and the straight high temperature viscosity grades (the “non-W” viscosity grades). SAE viscosity grades are divided into two distinct groups. These days the SAE publication J300 Viscosity Grades for Engine Oils defines engine oil viscosity grades by four different viscosity tests. It was common in areas with large summer to winter temperature variations for an engine to be run on a less viscous oil grade, such as SAE 10, in winter and on a thicker SAE 30 in the summer. This first SAE Viscosity Grades for Engine Oils classification was for ‘straight’ monograde engine oils. In 1911 it established its viscosity grade classifications for engine oils. The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) was formed in 1905. And a multi-grade engine oil has to survive all these different conditions. It provides the appropriate fluid film protection in a number of flow and temperature conditions, being cranked at cold start-up temperatures down as low as -35o C, circulating as the bulk engine oil at around 100o C, or being torn apart through the ring belt area at temperatures around 185o C. Probably the most common multi-grade viscosity classification we encounter is an SAE 15W-40, though some modern diesel engines are now calling for SAE 10W-40, SAE 5W-30 or even SAE 0W-20 viscosity engine oils.Ī multi-grade engine oil is a technological marvel, yet we tend to take them for granted. Any lubricant, including diesel engine oils, can be fully described by those two functions, performance and viscosity. The other is performance, whether an API Service Classification, an ACEA Classification or an OEM specification. Viscosity is one of two characteristics which we use to fully describe an engine oil. We’re all familiar with multi-grade diesel engine oils. ![]()

![]() ![]() Overall, I was impressed with MacKeeper’s antivirus scanner. I was alerted with a notification, and prompted to move the files to quarantine, where I could then delete them. I tested the real-time protection by downloading a virus-infected folder, and was pleased to see that MacKeeper’s real-time scanner caught it immediately. MacKeeper’s real-time antivirus scanner works constantly in the background, checking every new file for malware as soon as you try to download it. Once enabled, it remains on until you manually deactivate it. To be honest, I don’t know why it’s not just enabled by default as this is a critical feature - but at least real-time protection is easy to activate and impossible to miss. The first time you run the antivirus scanner, you are prompted to enable the real-time protection. That said, MacKeeper’s scans are quicker than a lot of other antivirus software, and they didn’t slow down my device while they were running. Other antivirus software for Macs, like Intego, use file caching to skip over previously scanned safe files and reduce subsequent scan speeds, so it’s a shame MacKeeper doesn’t use this. It immediately prompted me to deal with these threats by either deleting or quarantining the files - quarantine is a useful feature that gives you an overview of all detected potentially harmful files, which you can either mark as safe or choose to delete.Īfter running multiple scans, I noticed that the scan times didn’t get any quicker - this means MacKeeper doesn’t use file caching to determine files that are known to be safe. MacKeeper’s antivirus scanner detected an impressive 99% of the malware samples I’d downloaded. However, the scan didn’t show how many files were scanned, so I don’t know if my entire system had actually been scanned or not.Īs part of my tests, I then downloaded a folder of Mac malware samples, including viruses, spyware, and ransomware, and ran the scan again. I first ran a full scan immediately after downloading the software it took 50 minutes - a similar speed to Intego‘s Mac-based scanner, but much faster than other top competitors like McAfee - and confirmed no threats were found on my Mac. There’s no quick scan option, but you can perform a custom scan - which allows you to choose and scan specific files only. ![]() ![]() Here, you can perform a full system scan to detect any malicious files or malware on your Mac. MacKeeper’s integrated antivirus scanner can be found at the top of the app dashboard, under Security. MacKeeper Security Features Antivirus Scanner MacKeeper offers a 30-day money-back guarantee on its annual plans (or 14-days on its monthly plan), so you can try it risk-free before committing long term. MacKeeper is not the cheapest product on the market by any means, but it’s definitely a solid option if you’re looking for a simple but quality antivirus for your Mac that also comes with some handy extras. That said, MacKeeper is extremely easy to both set up and to use, its anti-malware protection is almost perfect, and its VPN is one of the best I’ve seen as an antivirus add-on. It also lacks security tools such as a firewall and parental controls, which other Mac-focused antivirus products, such as Intego, do include. While MacKeeper is a good antivirus program that comes with a lot of useful features that work well, it’s missing some important features - it doesn’t offer any anti-phishing protection, which I would consider an essential security feature these days. ID theft protection (email monitoring). Its antivirus engine is very good at detecting malware, and its real-time protection ensures your device is always protected from new threats - during my tests, MacKeeper was able to detect 99% of the malware samples in my testing, which is comparable to some of the best macOS antiviruses on the market, like Intego, McAfee, and Norton. This was after I downloaded the Windows 11 ISO from µsoft’s website, which is free but you need a free outlook account t access it. What I finally did was research the issue and found a number of websites that sold W11 Product Keys for under $20 and purchased one. I spent many hours trying various workarounds but none of them worked. It only exists Fusion Pro which costs $100 to upgrade from Player. While only a checkbox, it is not present in Fusion Player. Additionally, it requires the BIOS to be reset to UEFI with a preference in Fusion Advanced Settings to change the BIOS Firmware. W11 requires an UEFI BIOS, encryption of it, and adding a special item called “Trusted Platform Module” It also requires you remove all your Snapshots to do this. You cannot upgrade a W10 licensed Windows to W11 with the free Fusion 13 Player, the personal free version of Fusion, if you are running the Legacy BIOS version of W10 which is highly likely. After much anguish I finely got a working licensed version running under Fusion 13 Player. I have literally spent days trying to get a transition to Windows 11 (W11) from an existing W10 legitimate and properly licensed upgrade from a much older version. Just choose the encryption option to encrypt only the parts of the VM that support the vTPM device. ![]() ![]() That way you do not have to encrypt the entire VM to enable the TPM device. Also, I’m not sure if the Windows 10 product key will work or how to get a new one if it does not as my upgrade to Windows 10 from my previous version was free and easy. Either that or encrypt the Windows 10, install the TPM and then install Windows 11 to it from the ISO. I am guessing that either you have to make a new Virtual Windows 11 then somehow migrate your info over to it.
